The statistics given by Simply Hired, a job searching service show that the unemployment rate for Miami Florida was hovering around 8.5% - which is just a little bit over the national average. This is not really the worst news that someone who is looking for a job in Miami could see, but it is certainly not welcome.

The employment situation in Miami is pretty diverse which means there is a bit of a safety net that is currently keeping the city afloat. There are cities across the country who are not nearly in the same great financial condition that Miami is and for that, anyone who is looking for work in the city, should be thankful for.

As there is this little buffer between Miami and most of the rest of the US, I think if you are looking for a job there you should put your best foot forward. Go into everything thinking positive thoughts and you will find the job you are looking for. It just takes a little time.

American Airlines Cuts to Hit Miami

American Airlines is the country's third largest airline. It is currently in Chapter 11 bankruptcy because of losing profitability over the last few years. The company announced that it would like to cut as many as 1000 jobs in the Miami area in order to pull itself out of bankruptcy. In a city where the unemployment rate remains high, this job cut could be problematic for many people, including those working in supporting industries. The company announced it would be slashing as many as 13,000 employees throughout the world. It is estimated that about 1000 of those positions will come from the Miami area. The company noted that in order to pull itself out of bankruptcy it needed to shed as many as 13,000 jobs throughout the world in positions ranging from baggage handlers, pilots, flight attendants and maintenance crews. Management positions would also be affected in most areas.

Is The Miami Job Market Really Improving?

In Miami, the job market seems to be improving. If you look at it from the point of view of the unemployment numbers, the job market seems to be doing very well. On the other hand, some state that the reason these numbers look good is the county's declining labor pool. In 2011, there are improvements noticeable in the hiring of businesses. About 35,000 jobs have been added to the payrolls in the Miami Dade area in the last year. The unemployment rates in the area are down, too, so what's the big deal? According to reports, Broward's unemployment rate was down to 8.6 percent for the month of December. Moreover, Miami Dade saw a drop as well, at 10.2 percent for the month. In Miami, Job Market Is Getting Better

The Miami job market is seeing improvement. In fact, investors are happy to say that things are getting better in the Miami Dade region. On Friday, a nationwide announcement indicated that the country added 200,000 jobs in the month of December. That helped to push the national unemployment rate lower, to 8.5 percent. More so, the report indicated that most of the country's largest industries are seeing growth. But, what does this mean for Miami specifically? Finding the Jobs in Miami The increase in employment nationwide does signal an increase in the Miami hiring numbers, too. For those who are looking for a job in this area, the strongest growth in the area continues to be in three specific industries: professional services, healthcare and tourism. For example, in Broward county, about 4700 jobs are on the payrolls this year that were not last year. 60 percent of those positions came from tourism in the area.
